Gary Snyder, The Dancer is a Weaver

Her dance is       daily life       transformed

holding     a spinner's spindle
face a calm still mask
wheeling slow as the night sky

kimono plain and perfect       robe of dawn
dressed for work
in heaven            in deva space
spindle in hand

moving like the moon       reflecting
brief life       craft       long time

eyes down       face pure                 slow

as she goes

Taira Mari's Ryukyu Court Dance performance
Naha, Okinawa, 4.III.2003
